Billy Beane is a former American baseball player working in the front office. He is a minority owner of Oakland Athletics, also referred to as the “A’s,” a Major League Baseball team that competes in the American League West (AL West) division (MLB), and the executive vice president of baseball operations.
Additionally, he has a small stake in Barnsley FC of the English EFL Championship and AZ Alkmaar of the Dutch Eredivisie.
Early Life
William Lamar Beane III was born on March 29, 1962. His parents raised him in San Diego, California, and Mayport, Florida. He picked up pitching from his father.
When attending Mt. Carmel High School in San Diego, Beane was a standout in the sports of basketball, football, and baseball. The high school baseball coach promoted Beane to the varsity team for the last contest of his first year. Beane batted.501 in his sophomore and junior years in high school. In his final year, his batting average dipped to 300.
Despite his falling hitting average, Beane’s ability left scouts in awe. Beane gave up playing football to avoid incurring an injury that could have ended his baseball career early. Despite this, Stanford University made an effort to sign Beane to a dual-sport scholarship to take over as the Stanford Cardinal football team’s starting quarterback in place of then-sophomore John Elway.

Career Highlights
With the first overall pick in the 1980 MLB Draft, the “New York Mets,” an American professional baseball team, we’re impressed with Beane’s skills and considered selecting him. Many companies thought he would enroll in “Stanford” rather than sign with a professional team, but he ultimately decided to join the “Mets,” earning a $125,000 signing bonus.
The Little Falls Mets, a minor league baseball team, then gave him a job that is an affiliate of the New York Mets. There were games between the Little Falls Mets of the Class A “New York-Penn League.” In stark contrast to expectations, Beane excelled in his first season, as seen by his .210 batting average.
